Meeting with His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia Irinej
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met earlier tonight with the Patriarch of Serbia Irinej, to discuss the crisis, as well as the measures to be taken to curb the spread of infectious disease COVID-19.
Following the meeting with the President, Serbian Patriarch Irinej called on the believers and all citizens of Serbia to be disciplined and listen to the advice of experts on the coronavirus and stressed that this is the only way we can overcome this great ordeal. He said the Serbian Orthodox Church would make its contribution in combating the disease.
"If one hears what the experts say then it will produce effects. And we, as the Church, will do everything to present to our people the horror that this virus can cause," Patriarch Irinej said, adding that the coronavirus had not yet reached its peak, but that we can only stop it with discipline and by listening to the experts.
"Life is one of the greatest and most important things in our being. This gift of God must be preserved. We will pray to God because we believe that prayer can help a lot," said Patriarch Irinej.
