President Vučić attends opening of the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture and the Roma Education Fund

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić attended today the opening of the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture and the Roma Education Fund and said he was happy that Serbia could fight for Roma inclusion, diversity, social equality and a better future for all citizens.

President Vučić pointed out that today he does not want to talk about vulnerability, but about the potential that Roma have in Serbia, but also the whole of Europe. He stated that Roma today represent the youngest population in Serbia and that among them is a huge number of young talented people - future artists, scientists, top workers.

"Although we have learned in this area to fight against others, against diversity, and for our exclusivity, I am happy that today we can fight for Roma inclusion. The opening of the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture and the Roma Education Fund in Belgrade shows how much effort Serbia is investing in preserving the Roma language and culture, quality youth education and greater Roma participation in public life, fighting discrimination and respecting Roma social equality and human rights. In this way, we are creating a better future for all citizens, because a better life for Roma means a better life for Serbia," said President Vučić and announced that 100 young Roma will be employed in public administration. He added that it is important to show what can be done for Roma in a structural sense and that he is particularly satisfied with all programmes and projects including this population.

"We have to develop an entrepreneurial spirit among the Roma. We must work on that in the whole of Serbia, with all citizens, but also with the Roma, to give a chance to young, talented people," said President Vučić and pointed out that our commitment is not only to live and work together but to respect each other and to learn from each other.

President Vučić said that the Institute is yet another wonderful place in Belgrade that will serve to gather smart, decent people, people who understand the present and know how to look to the future.

The head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Sem Fabrizi, pointed out that the Institute opened today will enable the identity and culture of the Roma people to be recognised and improved. He stated that 30 million euros were set aside for solving the housing issue, employment and education of Roma in Serbia and that the centre, which was opened today in Belgrade, should serve to bring Roma together and express themselves creatively.
