Tour of works on the Iverak - Lajkovac fast road construction
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić visited today the works on the construction of the fast road Iverak - Lajkovac to connect Valjevo with the highway "Miloš the Great".
"A fast road is being built here to extend the "Milos the Great" highway arm to Valjevo. It is of vital importance for the survival of Valjevo, for its development, life and future," said President Vučić, adding that Iverak-Lajkovac has a sewerage network, a water purification factory, a gas connection, a new sports hall, a gerontology centre and a project for the Valjevo General Hospital.
"Now that people see that it is being done, they know that it will be completed. Everything that has not been done in Valjevo for decades, will be done in the next two to three years. It is a completely new standard of living," he said.
During the tour of the works, President Vučić asked the representatives of the Chinese contractor "China Shandong" whether the works will be finished by December 2022 as they promised earlier, and received an affirmative answer. President Vučić noted that the contract stipulates that the entire project will be completed by December 2023.
He announced that the construction of the highway from Belgrade to Zrenjanin will commence next year.
"We would connect the whole of Bačka and Banat by that highway," President Vučić emphasised, adding that the state would be ready for talks with the Chinese contractor by the end of the year and that works could commence in 2022.
President Vučić moted that construction of a highway from Belgrade to Zrenjanin, the Fruška Gora corridor from Ruma to Novi Sad, as well as a section from Novi Sad to Zrenjanin is planned, and stressed that the construction of highways in that part of Serbia is very important.
Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Serbia, Chen Bo, stated that infrastructure is the most important area of cooperation between Serbia and China, and expressed confidence that the results in that area will be even better.
She and the president visited the works on the construction of the fast road Iverak - Lajkovac and pointed out that the project, with the joint efforts of the company from China and Serbian partners, is progressing steadily.
"We have all heard that the project will be completed before the agreed deadline," Chen said, adding that Chinese companies can share their experience and technology with Serbian partners and contribute to Serbia's economic development.
"I am convinced that we will achieve more results in that area," said Chen Bo.
The Iverak-Lajkovac expressway is part of the state road Loznica-Valjevo-Lazarevac and represents a cross-connection in the road network of Serbia. This road will connect parts of the Republic of Srpska, i.e. Bosnia and Herzegovina with the "Miloš the Great" highway and Corridor 10.
