Congratulations on Europe Day
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić congratulated the Europe Day to the President of the European Council Charles Michel, the President of the European Parliament David Sasolli, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, and the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi.
The letter of the President reads as follows:
"Dear friends,
I extend my congratulations on the occasion of Europe Day, a day which is the day of victory of idea of unity in difference in peace and solidarity.
The journey of European unity that set out seventy years ago with a visionary idea of Robert Schuman is still attractive to us who want to become members of the European family. Just like Schuman underlined in the Declaration that "it will be built through concrete achievements which first create a de facto solidarity", we hope that our achievements on the long and difficult path towards the European Union membership will be adequately valued and that Serbia, with your support and help, but also criticism, will become a country that will be gladly seen as an equal member, because that is our goal.
We'll work hard on making Serbia an organized and successful country. I believe that with our support and help, but criticism as well, we can also contribute to making the European Union even a better place for living, just like with policy of peace and cooperation, we will continue fighting for stability in the Western Balkans.
We are encouraged by the messages from the recent EU-Western Balkans Summit because the existence of European perspective is a strong incentive to our political, economic and social reforms. I hope that once the European Union successfully overcomes challenges it is facing, the word perspective will be replaced by the word enlargement, because thereby we would get a clear answer regarding our European future.
On this day of celebration, I want to thank you for showing care for our country in times when we are all fighting Coronavirus. We feel safer when we know that the European Union stands by us in times of hardship. Solidarity that you demonstrated, and to which Serbia responded with its own solidarity, will forever be respected. I am convinced that we will create conditions for delivering on common plans for the future, through cooperation in mitigating economic consequences of the pandemic." reads President Vučić's congratulations to the European officials.
