Congratulations to the newly elected President of the European Commission

Appointment for this important post is a proof of big trust that has been given to both your experience and the ideas to respond to the challenges the EU of today is facing with. I am convinced that you will defend the interests of the European Union in the best possible way and that you will promote its universal values. I hope that – by working on making united Europe even a better place for living – you will also support us who want to become a part of it.

 

EU membership is a strategic goal of Serbia, and as a candidate country, we will always be a reliable partner in achieving common goals. Even though we know that membership path is long and difficult, the existence of the European perspective is an encouragement to our efforts in making Serbia an organized and successful country.

 

At the same time, Serbia will – by following the politics of peace and cooperation – continue to fight for stability in the Western Balkans as the basis for economic and any other progress. Serbia has demonstrated the respective in searching compromise solution for the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, by realistic and courageous approach to the EU facilitated dialogue with Pristina.

 

I hope that during your tenure, with criticism, help and support as well as with adequate valuing of our political and economic reforms, Serbia will become a country that the European Union will gladly see as its equal member.
