Joint press release on video conference between President Aleksandar Vučić and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel

Media Advisor to the President of Serbia, Suzana Vasiljević and spokesperson of the German Federal Government Steffen Seibert, issued today the following press release:

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel, talked today through a video link.  
 
The two officials exchanged views on close bilateral and economic ties, Serbia's EU accession process and related reforms, as well as the situation in the region. 
 
During the conversation, President Vučić and Chancellor Merkel discussed in detail the challenges related to the suppression of infectious disease COVID-19.
 
In addition, they discussed the issue of the dialogue on normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Priština and in this context, they tackled the 2018 introduction of tariffs by the temporary institutions in Priština on goods from central Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. 
 
Federal Chancellor welcomed the readiness of the Serbian President regarding the commencement of the European Union facilitated dialogue on trade and customs-free barriers between - as she said - Serbia and Kosovo. 
 
The Federal Chancellor also welcomed Serbia's readiness to implement the Brussels Agreement on integrated management of the administrative line, where the first step will be the commissioning of the Merdare Station. President Vučić insisted on full compliance with and implementation of all the provisions of the Brussels Agreement. 
 
President Vučić and Federal Chancellor Merkel advocate rapid resumption of dialogue with a view to a comprehensive agreement on full normalisation of Belgrade-Priština relations. 
 
"I am grateful for the German and your personal attention and concern for Serbia and the Western Balkans," said President Vučić. 
 
President Vučić said he would take all necessary steps to successfully continue this dialogue and avoid the actions that would undermine the relations between Belgrade and Priština to create a constructive and open atmosphere for negotiations.
