Meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of the Army of the Republic of France
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met today with the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of France, Army General François Lecointre, with whom he stated that bilateral relations between the two countries are on the rise, including defence cooperation.
President Vučić and General Lecointre also discussed the strengthening of military-economic and military-technical cooperation, as well as the improvement of cooperation in the field of joint training, including the European Union facilitated operations. The interlocutors particularly discussed the improvement of reciprocity-based military educational cooperation.
"Serbia sees France as a reliable partner in the field of military-technical and military-economic cooperation, which is confirmed by numerous agreements concluded in the past period," said President Vučić, emphasising that partnership and cooperation in this area are of strategic interest to both countries.
The interlocutors also discussed the current situation in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and pointed out that only by joint action at the global level can we overcome the extremely severe consequences that this disease has caused to all aspects of life.
President Vučić especially pointed out that Serbia's full membership in the EU remains one of our country's key foreign policy priorities and added that Serbia was making great efforts in the process of European integration.
"France's support on our European path is of great importance and we are counting on that support," said President Vučić, adding that Serbia has accepted the new methodology in the accession negotiations and that he expects the achieved results to be adequately valorised through the opening of new negotiation chapters.
