Meeting with the delegation of the International Monetary Fund
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met earlier today with the representatives of the International Monetary Fund headed by the Chief of Mission Jan Kees Martijn to discuss the macro-economic trends and reforms in Serbia.
President Vučić emphasised that Serbia is committed to maintaining financial stability and further implementation of reforms aimed at achieving faster economic growth, creating new jobs and improving the living standard of all citizens.
The Head of Mission Martijn said that economic results of Serbia were very good, and particularly commended the successful completion of the privatisation process of Komercijalna Banka.
The interlocutors confirmed that advance was made within the cooperation programme supported by the Policy Coordination Instrument – PCI.
One of the conclusions of the meeting was also that the economic activity had recorded a high growth rate for the second consecutive year as evidenced by the fact that in 2019 an increase of 4.2% was achieved, which is higher than the original projection of 3.5%. Increased investment activity, expanded exports of goods and an increase in personal consumption of households due to higher disposable income have all significantly influenced this GDP growth.
One of the topics of the meeting was the redefinition of the existing fiscal rules aimed at ensuring the preservation of fiscal sustainability. At the meeting, the interlocutors also tackled further implementation of tax administration reform, followed by the public sector reform as well as the public investment management and administration of the state-owned enterprises.
