Meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met today with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Committee for Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation Yuri Borisov, and thanked him for aggrandising the celebration ceremony of the Statehood Day.
"I am delighted that we are celebrating the great holiday - the Presentation of Lord - with our Russian friends," said President Vučić and thanked President Putin for congratulating him on Statehood Day. President Vučić expressed hope that he would have the opportunity to host President Putin again.
President Vučić congratulated Russian Deputy Prime Minister Borisov on the Order of the Republic of Serbia on the ribbon and said that he deserved it many times over with his commitment to strengthening cooperation between Serbia and Russia. President Vučić said that the two countries' strategic relations are good and emphasised the importance of Russia's active support for Serbia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Borisov congratulated President Vučić on Statehood Day and said that he was honoured to receive the high Serbian decoration.
President Vučić thanked for the deliveries of the Sputnik V vaccine. The two interlocutors discussed the implementation of plans for Serbia with the help of experts from Russia and based on Russian technology, to produce vaccines independently. On this occasion, the Russian side highly appreciated the work of the Torlak Institute and announced the continuation of consultations to achieve that cooperation.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Borisov said that relations between the two countries are continually improving. "Each of our meetings opens up a new page of cooperation," the Russian official pointed out. On that occasion, the two interlocutors highlighted the trade exchange goal between Serbia and Russia to exceed four billion dollars.
President Vučić and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Borisov stated that joint infrastructure and energy projects are progressing well. The construction of the railway section from Stara Pazova to Novi Sad is expected to be completed by the end of the year, as President Vučić promised. The importance of the dispatch centre project for railway traffic in our country was also indicated. When it comes to the gas pipeline through Serbia from the Bulgarian to the Hungarian border, it was stated that the project follows the planned dynamics and that the delivery of gas, according to the plan, could start by the end of the third quarter of this year.
At the meeting, President Vučić and Deputy Prime Minister Borisov also discussed concrete proposals for future cooperation in the field of infrastructure and energy, as well as in other areas of mutual interest.
