Meeting with the Foreign Minister of Italy

"The relations between the two countries are very good, we have the support of Italy for our European path," said President Vučić, emphasising that the two countries have a long tradition of good and friendly relations. "Italy is today one of the most important political and economic partners of Serbia in Europe and for many years it has also been one of the most important economic partners of Serbia. It is the second foreign trade partner of Serbia and the second export market (by the end of 2018 it was the first) and the fourth import partner," said President Vučić.

         

President Vučić emphasised that Italy is one of the most substantial investors in the Serbian economy. 

 

The two interlocutors discussed the situation in the region and the stalled dialogue between Belgrade and Priština after the introduction of taxes on Serbian goods. President Vučić emphasised that Serbia is ready to resume the talks and dialogue with Priština immediately upon abolishment of taxes, and expressed hope for a possibility of a compromise solution to the problem.

     

"Italy is a friend of Serbia on the European path and we will do all we can to speed up the accession process. The Western Balkans is a key factor in the EU enlargement," Italian Foreign Minister Di Maio said, suggesting that the good practice of holding joint sessions of the two governments should continue.

 

Di Maio congratulated President Vučić on the attained economic results, especially in reducing unemployment and in the area of new technologies and the involvement of young people in these processes.
