Meeting with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus
At the meeting with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus Savvas Angelidis, President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić emphasised the great importance which Serbia attributes to the firm friendship with Cyprus based on understanding, trust and solidarity.
President Vučić thanked for the support of Cyprus in the protection of the state and national interests of Serbia demonstrated above all through the non-recognition of the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo and conveyed the unwavering position of Serbia with respect to the territorial integrity of Cyprus.
Minister Angleidis iterated the strong support of Cyprus to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia with respect to Kosovo and Metohija.
The two interlocutors agreed that the good political relations represent the basis for diverse cooperation which also includes the area of defence for which there is a mutual interest.
Minister Angelidis said that his country appreciates the engagement of the Army of Serbia in the UN Mission in Cyprus.
President Vučić asked Minister Angelidis to convey to the President of Cyprus Anastasiades his greetings and sincere gratitude for his strong support to the Eurointegrations of Serbia which he openly presents among his counterparts in the European Union.
President Vučić also emphasised the expectation that the third joint session of the Governments of the two countries will be held soon so that the talks on concrete joint projects and other forms of cooperation can be continued.
Minister Angelidis informed President Vučić about the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean. President Vučić said that Serbia expects that all activities in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus will develop in accordance with the international law to avoid the deterioration of the security situation in the region.
