Meeting with the President of the International Boxing Association
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met today with the President of the International Boxing Association, Umar Kremlev, and the Presidents of Regional Boxing Federations, to discuss regional cooperation, promotion of international connections through sports, and the upcoming World Boxing Championship to be held in Serbia.
President Vučić expressed a particular satisfaction with the launch of the Regional Boxing League aimed at returning to the stage and promoting regional clubs with a long tradition, which have yielded numerous European, world and Olympic champions.
"I strongly support the holding of the Regional League, which will promote this noble skill in the best way, especially among young and talented people, while also contributing to raising the quality of club boxing, strengthening the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding," said President Vučić, adding that he will strongly support the league in financial, organisational, media and every other aspect.
In addition to the Boxing Federation of Serbia, the Regional League was supported by the Boxing Federations of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Montenegro and North Macedonia, as well as by the International Boxing Association.
One of the main topics of the meeting was the holding of the upcoming World Boxing Championship to be held in the "Štark Arena" in Belgrade this year. The Serbian Boxing Federation has commenced with the realisation of this top sports event, which will gather some of the biggest names in boxing, while the exact date of the event will be determined subsequently following the estimates related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
