President Vučić meets the Director of the "Simon Wiesenthal Centre" Efraim Zuroff
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić talked earlier today with the Director of the "Simon Wiesenthal Centre" Efraim Zuroff and thanked him for the support to the Serbian people and the immense contribution in the preservation of the memory of Serbian victims in the Second World War. The President emphasised that he particularly appreciates the Zuroff's statements where he brings the attention to the suffering of the Serbian people after the Second World War and condemns the attempts to relativise its ordeal.
„Serbs and Jews have been sharing the same destiny throughout the history and I believe that in the years to come our centuries-long friendship will become even stronger", said President Vučić.
The two interlocutors discussed the constructing of the "Staro Sajmište" Memorial centre and pointed out the importance of marking the place of suffering of a large number of victims. President Vučić indicated the mistakes of Serbia concerning the Memorial Centre and expressed his hope for a faster advancement of the project realisation. He emphasised that the Jewish community is important for Serbia and that we respect their rights reflected by the fact that Serbia was the first country in the region which passed a special law on restitution of property of the Holocaust victims without living legal successors.
President Vučić announced that he will participate in the International Forum of leaders in Yad Vashem in January at the invitation of the President of Israel Rivlin on the occasion of the Holocaust Remembrance Day commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Auschwitz camp liberation.
