Telephone conversation with the European Council President
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić spoke earlier today by phone with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
Ahead of the afternoon European Union-Western Balkans videoconference summit, President Vučić and President Michel agreed that, even in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Union and the Western Balkans are oriented towards each other. President Vučić thanked for the significant aid of the EU to the citizens of Serbia, while President Michel emphasised the solidarity displayed by Serbia in providing aid to the people of Italy and helping in the Western Balkans region.
The European official said the European Union is committed to the European perspective of the Western Balkans and to further strengthening and intensifying its support to political, economic and social reforms in the region. The European Council President announced that the EU allocated EUR 3.3 billion to help the region also given the consequences of COVID-19 on the Western Balkan economies.
President Vučić and President Michel also discussed the next steps on the European path of Serbia. President Vučić said that Serbia is continuing the reform process aimed at joining the European Union.
They also reviewed the regional situation, stressing Serbia's commitment to peace and cooperation policy in the Western Balkans.
