Telephone talk with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić talked earlier today on the telephone with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borell and congratulated him again the election for this responsible office and wished him success in his work.
High Representative Borell announced that he will soon visit Belgrade and Priština to personally explore the possibilities of renewing the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština after the Government in Priština is formed.
President Vučić said that Serbia - following its regional policy of peace and stability - remains ready to continue the dialogue if Priština abolishes the unjustified and irresponsible one-sided measure of introduced taxes on goods from Central Serbia as such measure - besides Serbian economy - also jeopardizes the daily life of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. He emphasised that the taxes are contrary to all European rules of the free flow of goods and with the obligations Priština assumed within the regional cooperation. In this context, he emphasised that it is important for the European institutions and the EU member states to preserve the position that Priština authorities should abolish the taxes on goods from Central Serbia so that the dialogue could be restored.
The EU High Representative Borell welcomed the determination of Serbia to preserve regional stability.
The two interlocutors also discussed the next steps on the European path of Serbia. President Vučić said that Serbia keeps maintaining the reform process aimed at joining the European Union and that accordingly expects a clear EU strategic plan for enlargement and a timeline for membership, that is, a clear answer on its future in the European Union.
