Video-link meeting with the IMF delegation representatives
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić talked today via a video link with the representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, led by the Head of the Mission, Jan Kees Martijn.
The two officials discussed the implementation of the current arrangement - the Policy Coordination Instrument, as part of the semi-annual review of the current arrangement progress.
Head of Mission Martijn commended the engagement of President Vučić and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, as well as their responsible economic policy and successful crisis management during the pandemic in all areas - from health care to economy.
The two interlocutors stated that at this moment, the forecasts of the Government of Serbia regarding the GDP growth for the current year are somewhat more optimistic than the IMF estimations. The fact that Serbia is one of the few countries where the IMF did not adjust the initial growth rate projection from March this year also testifies to the justification of optimistic forecasts.
"Notwithstanding the negative consequences of the pandemic, this will contribute to a stable economic situation and a secure business environment in Serbia in the coming period," said President Vučić and expressed the expectation that the controlled growth of salaries and pensions will continue in 2021.
